The oil-paper umbrella is more than a tool — it’s a cultural symbol. Inspired by Bai Juyi’s Memories of Jiangnan, I’ve long been drawn to its quiet beauty: an umbrella unfolding in the drizzle, like a flower blooming in the rain.
Yet today, it’s disappearing. As folding umbrellas dominate daily life, the oil-paper umbrella — with its delicate craftsmanship — fades from view, caught in the current of modernization.
